Window Exhibition
July 2 — December 27, 2026
Yvens Alex Saintil, multidisciplinary artist, army veteran, and local activist, returns to East Window Gallery. Those who missed the opportunity to see Saintil’s solo show at East Window in November 2022 now have another chance. Saintil will be showing three pieces in our exhibition window in July 2026.
"The theme is democracy under attack today using historical protest signs of the past. The iconic I AM A MAN protest sign gained prominence during the 1968 Memphis sanitation strike to assert the basic humanity and dignity of Black sanitation workers. In 2025, when held by Allegra, wearing a 1950s fit-and-flare dress, the sign also questions how the rights and perceived humanity of women, gender-diverse people, and other underrepresented communities have-and have not-shifted over time. The common thread is this: All humans desire to be seen, accepted, loved for who they truly are.”
