Thoughts & Prayers - Opening Reception

Thoughts & Prayers
Todd Berger / Lucian Föhr
Opening Reception

Exhibit runs: July 2 - August 28

Thoughts & Prayers is an ongoing body of work by Berger & Föhr examining the American relationship to gun violence and the language that surrounds it. Initiated after the 2021 King Soopers shooting in Boulder, Colorado, and further shaped by the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the project explores the distance between ritualized condolence and structural change. The series began as an experiment in access: how easily could a civilian obtain an assault rifle? Within days, the artists had secured one and learned to use it safely, confronting the strange duality of fear and familiarity that accompanies possession. The experience became the foundation for an edition of screen-printed works and related objects, translating political rhetoric into material form. Each work in the collection functions as both data and evidence—an index of lives lost and a record of the act that marks it. Through deliberate precision and formal restraint, Thoughts & Prayers transforms abstraction into witness, inviting reflection on what follows after empathy. The project continues to evolve toward its presentation at East Window in June 2026, where it will expand to include new works and public dialogue around its central questions.

Berger & Föhr is a collaborative art and design duo driven by process, materiality, and conceptual exploration. With over two decades of shared authorship, they blend human intuition with systematic precision, pushing the boundaries between tradition and technology. Their practice embraces both control and unpredictability, creating refined, minimalist works that reflect the tension and balance of the world around us.
